Abstract

This is a review of a book by a renowned economist G. I. Hanin, devoted to the analysis of the economic history of the USSR between 1937 and 1987. Hanin is known as the author of a method used to effectively evaluate the dynamics of Soviet and Russian economy which draws a more objective picture independent of official statistics of the USSR or Russia. Objectively and in an unbiased manner, the book describes the rise and fall of USSR’s economy, focusing on policy of science and technology, which played a major role in the fall of the Soviet Union, according to the author.
